Horny Goat Weed
Horny Goat Weed (HGW) is also known as Epimedium and is used as an aphrodisiac and a treatment for erectile dysfunction. It generally excels in both areas almost without equal.
HGW contains icariin, a PDE5 inhibitor. This means that it affects the smooth muscle tissues of the penis and relaxes them allowing blood to flow in and engorge the penis muscles thus improving erectile function.
Despite HGW's very effective results as a muscle relaxer, anyone who knows anything about testosterone boosters and has ever taken HGW knows full well that there is more going on. A lot more.
In addition to relaxing smooth muscle tissue, HGW appears to increase testosterone with effects that are entirely different from other testosterone boosters. Most testosterone boosters result in subtle changes in personality. For example, a man taking Avena sativa may feel more confident, slightly more aggressive and may be willing to approach a woman that catches his interest more readily.
When supplementing with HGW, changes in behavior are similar but the intensity is vastly amplified. For example with the proper HGW supplementation, a man might find it almost impossible not to approach a woman that catches his interest. He may find himself making that approach before he even stops to think about it.
Confidence levels soar and healthy aggression can rise almost to the level of an ambitious teenager.
Taking HGW can almost mean vastly improved erectile function, assuming no underlying cardiovascular blockages and semen levels can double as well. Ejaculation frequency can go from once a week to almost every day.
The effects of HGW, when properly supplemented are fantastic and HGW can be the best aphrodisiac and a treatment for erectile dysfunction by far.
Horny goat weed is a flowering plant mostly found in China. The plant is also very popular in Japan as a garden plant.
Discovered by a Chinese goat herder, HGW promoted sexual activity in his flock after they ate the weed. The active ingredient in HGW is icariin, which comes in standardized extracts from 5% to 60%. A strength of 10% icariin is fine as long as it is legitimately measured. As with all supplements, in order to get what you pay for you must be very careful and buy from a reputable seller.
HGW works in many different ways. The icariin it contains may work by increasing levels of nitric oxide, which relaxes smooth muscle tissue. This action may be similar to the release of nitric oxide by arginine and may have broad implications as far as the potential of HGW and to aid in overall cardiovascular health. More studies in this area need to be done.
HGW may also boost testosterone by aiding in the release of a luteinizing hormone (LH) from the pituitary gland. LH, in turn, stimulates the testes to produce more testosterone.
For years horny goat weed has been used as a medicinal herb. It is a time-tested aphrodisiac that works in several ways to help male sexual "issues."
